Materials and Manufacturing Processes for Sprockets
Materials Carbon steel (such as 45# steel) is the mainstream material for manufacturing sprockets, and after quenching and tempering, its hardness can reach HRC 28–32. Stainless steel sprockets are suitable for corrosion-resistant applications such as food-processing machinery, while powder metallurgy is well-suited for the mass production of small sprockets.
Manufacturing Process The manufacturing process for sprockets comprises several steps, including mixing, forming, sintering, and post-processing. Forming is typically carried out using a mixer, while sintering is performed under vacuum conditions to achieve high density and superior product quality. Post-processing operations such as sandblasting and oxidation are conducted to enhance the sprocket’s surface finish and wear resistance.
